KD VI PERFORMANCE REVIEW

When I first saw the pictures I was happy that they went back to low top, I love the KD IV so much it’s still heavy in my hoop shoes rotation. So I was really anxious of getting it. The shoe felt pretty good casually, but after one week of hooping in it, I found a few problems that I had to address.

The fit was my biggest issue. Initially trying the shoes on, I felt like it’s a good half size too small, then I tried on a half size smaller and it just felt way too tight, my toes are digging into the front of the shoe, so I went with my usual size. First game I played I was not wearing my elite socks for these, the regular kind Nike socks just leaves too much room in the toe box, where it literally rubbed off the skin on top of my 4th toe.

The area bothered me the most was where the ankle lining and the tongue met, on both sides, when laced up tight, it keeps on digging into my ankle every time I tried to make a move, and after one game every step I took hurt. So I tried loosen the lace a bit, it helped but then the fit got loose and the shoe almost came off a few times.

The next day I did have on the elite socks and toe problem solved but the ankle problem aggravated. This time not just the sides but even the back tab is cutting in. the next few days I played one game each time and hoping the problems will go away after the shoes are broken in, but after one week of trying it I think this might just stay as a casual shoe.

The pros are the traction and the cushion, both worked very well for me. Being a true low top, I had no problem doing all the moves. And I always loved the forefoot zoom unit and now with the thinner max unit in the back, the shoes are even lower to the ground. It felt really responsive. But all the pros were overshadowed by the ankle issue and I didn’t really think about the good things until now.

One thing I might add is the tongue design actually works good, no pressure from lacing as the previous few KDs did.

Overall I didn’t really like it as a performance basketball shoe, if a shoe doesn’t fit good how am I going to play in it let alone performance testing it? Same concept for upper might work somewhat in a high top shoe which you can lace up all the way over your ankle, but not for a low top.
